Perhaps we all need a special angel today.

When I collected her, her wings moved.

May we all be filled with love and beauty today

And may our angel wings always work.

If I have an angel assigned to me today,

I pray I make her glad she is with me.

Words Collected

(many of these came from Beverly's "thought for the day" on the MPD List)

In everyone's life Besides the noble art of getting things done, there is the noble art of leaving things undone. The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of non-essentials.

-Lin Yutang

At some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.

For Claire in memory of Eli

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone.

Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone.

Silence the pianos and with muffled drum Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aero planes circle moaning overhead

Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead.

Put crêpe bows round the white necks of the public doves, Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West, My working week and my Sunday rest, My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song; I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one; Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun; Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood; For nothing now can ever come to any good.

-Funeral Blues by W.H.Auden

"Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense."

Ralph Waldo Emerson

What greater thing is there for two human souls than to feel that they are joined for life--to strengthen each other in all labor, to rest on each other in all sorrow, to minister to each other in all pain, to be one with each other in silent, un-speak able memories at the moment of last parting.

If your project doesn’t work, look for the part that you didn’t think was important.

"And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye." - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

If we could read the secret history of our enemies, we should find in each man's life sorrow and suffering enough to disarm all hostility.

IT'S NEW YEAR'S EVE...

At the sound of the toll of the midnight bell

a brand new year will begin.

Let's raise our hopes in a confidant toast,

to the promise it ushers in.

May your battles be few, your pleasures many,

your wishes and dreams fulfilled.

May your confidence stand in the face of loss

and give you the strength to rebuild.

May peace of heart fill all your days

May serenity grace your soul.

May tranquil moments bless your life

and keep your spirit whole.

"...accept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days

you're the statue." This is true for everyone!

I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright. I wish you enough rain
to appreciate the sun more. I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit
alive. I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much
bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting. I wish you enough loss to
appreciate all that you possess. I wish you enough hellos to get you
through the final good-bye.

DESIDERATA:

Go placidly amid the noise and haste

and remember what peace there may be in silence.>As far as possible without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly and listen to others, even the

dull and ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others you may become vain or bitter, for

always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your career, however humble; it is a real possession

in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of

trickery.

But let this not blind you to what virtue there is.

Many persons strive for high ideals

and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.

Especially do not feign affection.

Neither be cynical about love,

for in the face of all aridity and disappointment it is as perennial as

the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,

gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.

But do not distress yourself with imaginings.

Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars.

You have a right to be here.

And whether it is clear to you or not,

no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,

whatever you conceive him to be,

and whatever your labours and aspirations in the noisy confusion of

life, keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham and drudgery and broken dreams it is still a

beautiful world.

Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

The Wisdom of Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) (Wise beyond his years; he died at the age of 45.)

Selected Quotes:

"...I never found the companion that was so companionable as solitude."

"...The morning wind forever blows, the poem of creation is uninterrupted; but few are the ears that hear it"

"...I once had a sparrow alight upon my shoulder for a moment while I was hoeing in a village garden, and I felt I was more distinguished by that circumstance than I should have been by any epaulet I could have worn."

"Be strong and courageous.  Do not be terrified; do not be

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt within the heart.--Helen Keller

"Cripple him, and you have a Sir Walter Scott. Lock him in a prison cell, and you have a John Bunyan. Bury him in the snows of Valley Forge, and you have a George Washington. Raise him in abject poverty and you have an Abraham Lincoln. Strike him down with infantile paralysis, and he becomes Franklin Roosevelt. Burn him so severely that the doctors say he'll never walk again and you have a Glenn Cunningham who set the world's one mile record in 1934. Deafen him and you have a Ludwig van Beethoven. Call him a slow learner, "retarded" and write him off as uneducable, and you have an Albert Einstein.  As one man summed it up: Life is about 20% in what happens to us and 80% in the way we respond to the events.

"Why Make Yourself Crazy?" by G.G. McTigue.

Stress Relief Tip #5: Get more out of life by doing less.

What a concept! Is your life fulfilling? Or is it merely crammed? Know the difference and you'll realize it's not the quantity of activities you engage in (or possessions that you collect) that ultimately determine your happiness.

One naturally unfolding, enriching experience can easily surpass many rushed and distracted ones. But you may be so chronically overscheduled, you never give yourself a chance to enjoy anything to the fullest. Experiment.

Choose an occasion and give it your complete, mindful, and unhurried attention. Then imagine an entire life of such enrichment. It's absolutely attainable.

An Indian Prayer

Oh, great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the winds

And whose breath gives life to everyone,

Here me,

I come to you as one of your children.

I am weak..., I am small..., I need your wisdom

And your strength.

Let me walk in beauty, and make my eyes ever

Behold the red and purple sunsets.

Make my hands respect the things you have made

And make my ears sharp so I may hear your voice.

Make me wise, so that I may understand

What you have taught my people and

The lessons you have hidden in each leaf

And in each rock.

I ask for wisdom and strength,

Not to be superior to my brothers, but to be able

To fight my greatest enemy, myself.

Make me ever ready to come before you with

Clean hands and straight eye.

So as life fades away as a fading sunset,

My spirit may come to you without shame.

Jo Ann wrote: So, I live the best I can today, so if it is my

last, I did it the best way I could. I follow my Dr's advise, keep up on the

new things and plan for tomorrow, but live today.

rear.. "

{Crazy Horse}

If you are prepared to die today, really prepared, you can then live life to

When I was born I cried and the whole world laughed.

When I die, may the whole world cry while I laugh.

"Hugs, pats, backrubs, holding hands -- such small gestures convey a world of love, put hope and cheer back in our lives, and provide the comfort we need in times of suffering and pain. Old or young, success or failure, we still need to feel the touch of love, and if we're feeling unloved, perhaps we need to be on the lookout for the signs of love from those who aren't able to put their love into words -- a kindly deed, a friendly phone call, the silent presence of a neighbor in our grief."

I would climb more mountains and swim more rivers. I have been one of those persons who never goes anywhere without a thermometer, a hot-water bottle, a raincoat, and a parachute.

Not next time! I'd start barefooted earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall. I wouldn't make such grades unless I enjoyed working for them. I'd go to more dances. I'd ride on more merry-go-rounds. I'd pick more daisies..."

After a While

After a while you learn
The subtle difference between
Holding a hand and chaining a soul
And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning
And company doesn't always mean security.

And you begin to learn
That kisses aren't contracts
And presents aren't promises
And you begin to accept your defeats
With your head up and your eyes ahead
With the grace of a woman
Not the grief of a child

And you learn
To build all your roads on today
Because tomorrow's ground is
Too uncertain for plans
And futures have a way
Of falling down in mid flight

After a while you learn
That even sunshine burns if you get too much
So you plant your own garden
And decorate your own soul
Instead of waiting
For someone to bring you flowers

And you learn
That you really can endure
That you are really strong
And you really do have worth
And you learn and you learn
With every good bye you learn.

Pope John Paul II -- a leader of billions, yet the follower of only one.

--His last word? Amen! (Translated:"may it be so")

ANOTHER SOLDIERS COMING HOME

His back is bent and weary, his voice is tired and low, His sword is worn from battle, and his steps have gotten slow But he used to walk on water, or so it seemed to me, I know he moved some mountains, and he never left his knees.

He faced the winds of sorrow, but his heart knew no retreat, He walked in narrow places, knowing Christ knew no defeat.

But now his steps turn homeward, he has received his prize, He was sounding kind of homesick, I could see it in his eyes.

STRIKE UP THE BAND, ASSEMBLE THE CHOIR!

ANOTHER SOLDIERS COMING HOME

Another warrior hears the call, he's waited for so long.

He'll battle no more, He's won his wars -- Make sure Heaven's table has room for at least one more, Sing a welcome song, Another soldier has come home!.

exactly like me. Everything that comes out of me

is authentically mine, because I alone chose it

I own everything about me: my body, my feelings,

my mouth, my voice, all my actions, whether they

be to others or myself. I own my fantasies, my

dreams, my hopes, my fears. I own my triumphs

and successes, all my failures and mistakes.

Because I own all of me, I can become intimately

acquainted with me. By so doing, I can love me

and be friendly with all my parts. I know there

are aspects about myself that puzzle me, and other

aspects that I do not know -- but as long as I am

friendly and loving to myself, I can courageously

and hopefully look for solutions to the puzzles

and ways to find out more about me. However I

look and sound, whatever I say and do, and whatever

I think and feel at a given moment in time is

authentically me. If later some parts of how I looked,

sounded, thought, and felt turn out to be unfitting, I can

discard that which is unfitting, keep the rest, and

invent something new for that which I discarded.

I can see, hear, feel, think, say, and do. I have the

tools to survive, to be close to others, to be productive,

people and things outside of me. I own me, and

therefore, I can engineer me. I am me, and I am okay."

"If I had my life to live over, I'd dare to make more mistakes next time. I'd relax; I'd limber up. I'd be sillier than I have been this trip. I would take fewer things seriously. I would take more chances. I would climb more mountains and swim more rivers.

I would eat more ice cream and less beans. I would perhaps have more actual troubles, but I'd have fewer imaginary ones.

You see, I'm one of those people who lived sensibly and sanely hour after hour, day after day.

Oh, I had my moments, and if I had to do it over again, I'd have more of them. In fact, I'd try to have nothing else. Just moments, one after the other,=20 instead of living so many years ahead of each day.

I've been one of those persons who never goes any- where without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, a raincoat, and a parachute. If I had it to do over again I would travel lighter than I have. "How do I know my youth is all spent

Well, my get up & go has got up & went.

But in spite of it all, I'm able to grin, When I think where my get up & go has been.

Old age is golden so I've heard it said

But sometimes, I wonder when I get into bed, With my ears in a drawer, my teeth in a cup I realize that I'm not still a pup.

Ere sleep dims my eyes, I say to myself

Is there anything else to be put on the shelf?

And I'm happy to say as I close the door My friends are the same way, perhaps even more.

When I was young, my slippers were red.

I could kick my heels right over my head.

And when I grew older my slippers were blue But still I could dance the whole night through.

Now I am old, my slippers are black

I walk to the store and puff my way back The reason I know my life is near spent My get up and go has got up and went But really I don't mind and I think with a grin Of all the grand places my get up has been.

Since I have retired from life competition I busy myself with complete repetition-- I get up each morning, and I dust off my wits, Pick up my paper and read the o'bits-- If my name is missing, I know I'm not dead, So I eat a good breakfast, and go back to bed."

BY LANCE ARMSTRONG:

"I believed in belief, for its own shining sake. To believe in the face of utter hopelessness, every article of evidence to the contrary, to ignore apparent catastrophe-what other choice was there? We do it every day, I realized. We are so much stronger than we imagine, and belief is one of the most valiant and long-lived human characteristics. To believe, when all along we humans know that nothing can cure the briefness of this life, that there is no remedy for our basic mortality,

that is a form of bravery." "To continue believing in yourself,  believing in the doctors, believing in the treatment, believing in whatever I  chose to believe in, that was the most important thing, I decided. It had to be."

"Without belief, we would be left with nothing but an overwhelming doom, every single day. And it will beat you. I didn't fully see, until the cancer, how we fight every day against the creeping negatives of the world, how we struggle daily against the slow lapping of cynicism. Dispiritedness and disappointment, these are the real perils of life, not some sudden illness or cataclysmic millennium doomsday. I knew now why people fear cancer: because it is a slow and inevitable death, it is the very definition of cynicism and loss of spirit... So, I believed."

"Tension is who you think you should be.

Relaxation is who you are..."

(--Chinese Proverb)

"If you want to build a ship, don't herd people

together to collect wood and don't assign them

tasks and work, but rather teach them to long

for the endless immensity of the sea."

(--Antoine de Saint-Exupery)

"Remember days when dreams were like the sea,

never ending and sure to be?

You saw them with your heart so pure

and knew they surely would endure.

When did you cast them back into the sea?

Did you think that they would simply never be?

Just like the sea, your dream is still there...

waiting like a seashell to be picked up."

(--adapted from Misty Taggert)

Courage is what happens when your desire to make positive

progress is greater than your fear of a negative setback.

Courage is what happens when you look at those fears, listen

to them, learn from them, use them to prepare, and then move

boldly forward.

Courage is how problems are turned into opportunities.

Courage is why some people are able to move the situation

forward though there seems to be no hope.

Courage is when you do what you know is right, even if it is

the more difficult and unpopular choice. Courage is

something that builds new strength each time it is

exercised.

Courage is not something that you must obtain or struggle to

develop. Courage is a choice that can be yours the moment

you decide to use it.

When the goal is worthy and filled with meaning, the courage

to reach it will be there. When your sense of purpose is

strong and clear, your courage will be too.

Courage is indeed a powerful way to live. And you can choose

it every time.

Lessons from the Geese, written by Angeles Arrien...

This Fall, when you see geese heading south for the winter flying along in

"V" formation, you might consider what science has discovered as to why they

fly that way.

FACT: As each bird flaps its wings, it creates an "uplift" for the bird

immediately following. By flying in a "V" formation, the whole flock has at

least 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew on it's own.

LESSON: People who share a common direction and sense of community can get

where they are going more quickly and easily because they are traveling on

the thrust of one another.

FACT: When a goose flies out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and

resistance of trying to go it alone. It quickly gets back into formation to

take advantage of the lifting power of the bird in front of it.

LESSON: If we have as much common sense as a goose, we stay in formation

with those headed where we want to go. We are willing to accept their help

and give our help to others. It is harder to do something alone than

together.

FACT: When the lead goose gets tired, it rotates back into the formation,

and another goose flies to the point position.

LESSON: It is sensible to take turns doing the hard and demanding tasks

and sharing leadership. As with geese, people are interdependent of each

others skills, capabilities, and unique arrangements of gifts, talents, or

resources.

FACT: The geese flying in formation honk from behind to encourage those up

front to keep up their speed.

LESSON: We need to make sure our honking is encouraging. In groups where

there is encouragement, the production is much greater. The power of

encouragement (to stand by one's heart or core values and encourage the

heart and core of others) is the quality of honking we seek. We need to

make sure our honking is encouraging and not discouraging.

FACT: When a goose gets sick, wounded, or shot down, two other geese will

drop out of formation with that goose and follow it down to lend help and

protection. They stay with the fallen goose until it dies or is able to fly

again. Then, they launch out on their own, or with another formation to

catch up with their flock.

LESSON: If we have the sense of a goose, we will stand by our colleagues

and each other in difficult times as well as in good!

Let each of us creat uplift for each other.

There is a crack in everything,

Dancing With God

When I meditated on the word Guidance,

I kept seeing "dance" at the end of the word.

I remember reading that doing God's will is a lot like dancing.

When two people try to lead, nothing feels right.

The movement doesn't flow with the music, and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky.

When one person realizes that, and lets the other lead, both bodies begin to flow with the music.

One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back or by pressing lightly in one direction or another.

It's as if two become one body, moving beautifully.

The dance takes surrender, willingness, and attentiveness from one person and gentle guidance and skill from the other.

My eyes drew back to the word Guidance.

When I saw "G: I thought of God, followed by "u" and "i".

"God, "u" and "i" dance."

God, you, and I dance.

As I lowered my head, I became willing to trust that I would get guidance about my life.

Once again, I became willing to let God lead.

My prayer for you today is that God's blessings and mercies be upon you on this day and everyday.

May you abide in God as God abides in you.

Dance together with God, trusting God to lead and to guide you through each season of your life.

This prayer is powerful and there is nothing attached.

If God has done anything for you in your life, please share this message with someone else, for prayer is one of the best gifts we can receive.

There is no cost but a lots of rewards; so let's continue to pray for one another.

And I Hope You Dance

Today Harriet Sienkiewicz passed away peacefully at 10:00 am central time from pneumonia after her long battle with leukemia. She was surrounded by her family, Father Frank, and Dr. Bittron, and had the prayer quilt over her that her sister Delores made, while cello music played in the background. May God rest her soul.
